Penny Century's Corner Of The World:

A seldom told story is the one of the sprawling pop-scene in Östersund, a rather isolated town in the north of Sweden. No, we kid you not. The city by the lake has spawned lots of great groups, it´s just that no one has ever noticed. Originally playing in different punk, rock or indie groups, the six soon-to-be creators of the most beautiful northern pop-music imaginable met each other in their mid-teens. Since there isn´t much to do in this corner of the world you could, by that age, either opt for heavy drinking or start writing songs. Penny Century chose both. It was on strangers' balconies, in blizzed-like snowstorms, on their way to parties or just during friendly afternoons spent drinking that they grew to know one another. The songs often revisit this time of coming of age, a time of getting to know yourself and becoming the best of friends at the same time. Penny Century's lyrics touch upon other recurring subjects such as family, guilt and love... either lost or longed for. The tunes are like the faded yellow pictures of a family's photo-album, love-letters that were never sent or just damn good pop-songs with great vocals, jangly guitars, soaring melodies and catchy choruses.

After releasing four E.P.s that display a genuine belief in pop-music's ability to move it's listeners, Penny Century were signed to Letterbox Records. Although the members of Penny Century are just in their early twenties they have established themselves as exceptionally gifted songwriters. Following numerous live performances, the band have earned the reputation of being a surprisingly explosive live act. These are songs that never fail to affect people, at least anybody with blood in their veins. But most importantly, these are songs that preferably shouldn´t be read about, but heard.
